Lyn has been quoted in a lot of papers this week as saying that she did not agree with army cadet forces being run at schools. This is completely opposite to what she did say.

MAMAA believe that the armed services cadets, whether Navy, Air Force or Army is a step in the right direction. Cadets develop qualities which stand young men and women well in society and their later working lives. The training is not just military subjects but also activities like The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, First Aid, self reliance and pride in themselves and their country as young adults.

They are taught at all times that with responsibility comes accountability and that safety is paramount in everything they do. Cadet Forces were formed over 200 years ago to empower and enable some of the most deprived or socially excluded young adults, to take part in summer camp, even when parents cannot afford for them to take part. Every cadet is treated with equality and funds are available to ensure that nobody misses out.

MAMAA have been misquoted on many occasions and this is why we only ever do live radio and TV programmes so that what we say cannot be edited. Unfortunately as many of you will know, the newspapers are different. Lyn did not give an interview with the journalist who wrote the original article but she did tell him that she felt very strongly that the cadet forces were a good idea and anything that taught young people to respect themselves and others was to be applauded.
